Our Journey

Why Zimbabwe?

Rescue those being led away to death; hold back those staggering toward slaughter
— Proverbs 24:11 NIV
Zimbabwe is a troubled nation. Once the breadbasket of Africa, Zimbabwe is now a beggar nation suffering from the effects of the HIV/AIDS pandemic, an economic meltdown, and political chaos. In this atmosphere, people are looking for hope – something substantial to hold on to. Together we can bring such hope to Zimbabweans – one by one.

What are some of the realities faced by Zimbabweans?
  • Officially, there are 900,000 orphaned children in Zimbabwe – they are targets for child trafficking (Zimbabwe is considered the hub of human trafficking in southern Africa).
  • On average, 2,000 Zimbabweans die each week from AIDS-related illnesses.
  • The Zimbabwe dollar has been declared worthless and replaced by the U.S. dollar in an attempt to stabilize the economy.
  • Political intimidation is common – using arrest, torture, rape and death.

These conditions provide opportunity for evangelism, training, and compassion ministries. The General Council of the Assemblies of God, Zimbabwe has new, visionary leadership. They see the needs and ills of their nation, but they also see God is on the move. This mission to Zimbabwe offers us a chance to partner together to fulfill the vision of God for Zimbabwe and to address the needs of at-risk children and widows.

We will initially focus on three areas:
  1. Developing leaders. Without leaders nothing advances.
  2. Planting churches. The goal is to establish 1,000 new congregations by 2020. We will encourage the 111 current churches to replicate themselves every two years. Following this pattern, 1,000 new churches is attainable by 2020.
  3. Engaging in compassion ministries – reaching the unlovely, rejected, and at-risk people of Zimbabwe.

Your partnership with us will make this effort possible, and successful. We appreciate each individual and each church that has already committed to investing in Zimbabwe through us. Together, we can bring hope to the hopeless and see lives transformed for the glory of God.
